Source Technologies Hosts Financial Self-Service eForum to Educate Financial Institutions, Billers, and Retailers

I have met these folks from Source Technologies, and I believe they are on to something, with the teller assisted concept.  In the US there is also the explosion of self service in convenience stores, supporting the “unbanked”.

Source Technologies Hosts Financial Self-Service eForum to Educate Financial Institutions, Billers, and Retailers; Online Event Discusses Next-Generation Financial Kiosk Technology and Applications

In June 2006, Source Technologies, a leading provider of integrated solutions for managing financial transactions and other secure business processes, will host a series of four consecutive online forums for companies exploring financial self-service kiosk applications.

The teller assisted concept says that people will still come into branches for the foreseeable future to conduct transactions, so in order to manage them cost effectively, have the customer perform part of the activity on a machine (kiosk/ hybrid ATM containing specialised functions), and have the teller in effect manage multiple customers simultaneously.

I have seen the demo, but that was over a year ago, so I am curious to see what progress has been made, and in particular, which functions have successfully been managed via these devices.  The theory is that the device is an extension of the branch transaction platform, and so commercial deposits is one obvious one, but which others?  I am curious about wires for example, or stop payments – those slightly more complex transactions that would benefit from teller assistance.

Anyhow this online forum is free, and may be worth your attention to listen in.  I will be there.

Session 1: Deconstructing the Branch: How Transactional Kiosks are
Turning Retailers into Bankers
Date: Tuesday, June 6, 2:00 pm EST
Banks and credit unions are re-engineering branches using
self-service kiosks to streamline teller banking tasks
while offering a broader array of in-branch customer
services. Forward thinking retailers are already using
transactional kiosks to offer bill payments, check
cashing, money wires, and other financial transactions.
This forum addresses the changing competitive environment
between retailers and banks with the advent of
self-service technologies.
Session 2: When Worlds Collide: The Battle for the Unbanked
Date: Wednesday, June 7, 2:00 pm EST
Unbanked consumers now account for 20% of US households.
Retail convenience stores and grocers are enjoying success
in attracting these customers using self-service
technology, while financial institutions have struggled to
define their strategies. Hear how some banks and credit
unions are positioning themselves to capture the lion's
share of unbanked consumers' banking business using
self-service technology.
Session 3: Self-Service Bill Payments: "Killer App" on a Kiosk?
Date: Wednesday, June 13, 2:00pm EST
For most grocery stores, utilities, communication
companies, and even financial institutions, in-person bill
payment is a necessary service offering for their
customers. But when retail staff are consumed with
processing bill payments, how can they provide value-added
services that build customer relationships and grow
revenues? Self-service kiosks provide a fast and easy way
for customers to pay their bills without waiting in line
for a customer service or sales representative. This forum
will explore how self-service bill pay is on its way to
becoming the first self-service "killer application" for
many service industry retailers.
Session 4: Teller-Assisted Self-Service: The New Face of Retail
Banking
Date: Wednesday, June 14, 2:00 pm EST
Most financial institutions today consider their retail
operations to be the key to improving their competitive
position and balance sheet. Despite the growth of online
banking and ubiquity of ATMs, 9 out of 10 consumers still
walk into brick-and-mortar branches every month to conduct
their banking. Customer greeters, branch redesigns, and
friendlier, better-trained tellers all help, but some
banks and credit unions are turning to a new form of
financial self-service technology: teller-assisted
self-service kiosks. This forum presents an overview of
this transformational concept that may redefine the retail
banking landscape.
