I wanted to introduce this new blog from Unspace, a Ruby on Rails shop in Toronto, that are probably one of the best in North America.
They happen to be working [disclosure] on a project I am involved in (more very, very soon) and I am genuinely impressed with their approach and work.
I’ve said it before. I would love to see someone rebuild online banking in Rails. The cost, and development timeline is exponentially different than C++, and the result is something designed for the web.

I’d agree with you that I’d like to see Internet Banking created in Rails but that’s mainly b/c I’m a Rails fan. The bigger issue is to create it in Rails because of the agility and speed you’ll have with it.
I wouldn’t just want a ‘Rails representation’ of online banking but would want someone to get out of standard online banking platforms and do it in a new way. And I agree that Rails would be a good framework to do that in.
It is all well and good to build an internet banking platform in a new technology. But would such a technology have the security necessary to keep consumers feeling secure?
Maybe consumers like the clunky slow interfaces we have today because they ‘feel’ safe.
@Brad/@Anthony … great points. What impresses me with Rails is the way that framework is is fast and flexible as Brad says, but also its scalability. I see no reason security would be different. Finally the openness of the built in API’s should make it easier to link with host systems and existing web services.
