Worklight aims to attract corporations into the social network space

Worklight has secured $12 million in series B funding. While their headline is a vague sounding “highly- personalized “Web 2.0″ computing experience to the enterprise”, the reality is that they offer a secure corporate experience within the Facebook platform. The indicate on their site, that all personal data, and corporate information discussed is maintained within the firewall, and that corporate experience is plugged into FaceBook.

Its not clear how people would know which part they can speak openly, and which parts they would be able to share confidential information though. Its an interesting idea to try and attract corporations into the social network space.

  1. @james – thanks for the feedback on the website, and I’m sorry that you didn’t have such a great ‘highly-personalized user experience’ 😉 We actually try to stay away from buzzwords and industry babble, but it appears we still have some work to do. We are “on the case”, so check back soon. In any case, I’m glad you liked the demo.
@colin – thanks for writing about us. You’re right – there must be a clear differentiation between content that is ‘open’ (i.e. running freely on public websites like Facebook) and content that is ‘walled’ (i.e. running on our WorkBook server behind the firewall). This is particularly true as the personal and professional worlds blur with new Web 2.0 tools finding their place in the office. We’ve made this differentiation both visually, which you will actually see more prominently in upcoming versions, and security-wise. In fact, you can only access corporate information after you’ve been authenticated by your existing enterprise authentication mechanism, so all information rendered on WB is completely secure.

  2. @yonni … thanks for stopping by and offerring the clarifications. Good luck with your app – you are in the right space – enterprise 2.0 meets social networks.
