The release of Apple Vision pro and VisionOS highlighted this once more. The other much larger one is advent of AI. Using the category “tech companies” is a convenient term to reference against lOil companies, industrials and bonds.

I would submit that the current categories risk missing shifts that are significant to the the industries but more important could be industrial change that alters business and employment. I am not comparing AI and Spatial Computing rather pointing out the media and in particular the investment news media perform a poor job and worse downplay most new change reducing it to a new headset or an update to search.

Tim Cook refers to computing calories of desktop computing, mobile computing and now spacial computing. Cook is worth listening to; he is not a marketer.

Then we have AI which introduces platforms and software to run on them that are capable of managing enormous amounts of data and transform instantly into machine learning frameworks that support likes of chatGP4. I have covered AI extensively.

What follows is not my normal “Relevance to Bankwatch”. It is an attempt to look into the future (decades) with hypothetical examples designed to paint a picture of of one view into that future.

Relevance to Bankwatch

Here are examples of my working hypotheses:

Banking

In banking AI will operate workflows that manage everything from loan adjudication, customer risk assessment and decisioning to product origination. These in turn will channel design. Humans will be in much smaller numbers and will be system and process stewards of Bank policy. Banking Regulators (OSFI FINTRAC in Canada) providing the framework.

VsionOS will be a new channel offering capabilities that only Spatial computing can offer.

We have already witnessed the depth of power AI brings to battlefield operations. Banking is not a stretch.

Communication

The first thought I had was reinvention of working from home. Another would be eliminating the need to carry a laptop while travelling. Your iPhone will replace the already maligned wired box on your belt.

These are seismic shifts to employment categories and computing.
