Where have OpenAI’s founders gone?

By George Hammond in San Francisco Just two of OpenAI’s 11-strong founding team are still active at the ChatGPT maker, after an exodus following November’s attempted boardroom coup against chief executive Sam Altman.  Three co-founders have departed so far this year, including John Schulman, who defected to its artificial intelligence rival Anthropic this week. Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president, also said on Monday he would be taking extended leave from the company.  A high rate of turnover is not unusual at a start-up. However, attrition of senior figures at OpenAI has stepped up in recent months following November’s leadership crisis, when Altman was fired … Continue reading Where have OpenAI’s founders gone?

Building an engineering culture and resilient technology – McKinsey

Driving this shift requires modern technology leaders to expand from their traditional role as “guardians of IT” to become closer partners with the business. So says David Pedreira, CTO of Santander Argentina, in this interview with McKinsey’s Jorge Machado, where he … Continue reading Building an engineering culture and resilient technology – McKinsey

Labour’s Election Victory Ends the UK’s First Bout of Populism

Author: Jake Benford is Senior Project Manager on Bertelsmann Stiftung’s Europe‘s Future programme. The United Kingdom emerges from a long and hugely consequential period of centre-right populism with an exceptionally powerful centre-left Labour government. This bucks the European trends of either political stalemate or chaos, combined with a marked shift to the right. A moderate, Europe-facing government in Downing Street raises hope that British resilience and resurgence can bolster European unity in a geopolitical world. Yet barriers to reconnecting with the EU remain – and the surge of support for Reform, a populist protest party, is a reminder that British … Continue reading Labour’s Election Victory Ends the UK’s First Bout of Populism

Conversation with Francois Chollet and Mike Knoop on the $1 million ARC-AGI Prize they’re launching

https://open.substack.com/pub/dwarkesh “Okay, today, I have the pleasure to speak with Francois Chollet, who is an AI researcher at Google and creator of Keras. Lessons from Canada’s struggles with faster payments

Mon, Jun 26, 2023 Canada’s Real-Time Rail, a payments system that was originally set to go live this month, has been delayed again as the body that runs Canada’s domestic payments networks pauses to perform a second review of the project’s risks.
