Its not about transactions, its about relationships!

Thinking about CRM some more, and a small lightbulb just went on when I read this.  CRM is based on transactions between Banks and customers.  Its sole purpose as defined is to ‘drive’ revenue as we say in the business. Well Doc says that’s not right.  What matters is the relationship between the bank and the customer.  He calls that VRM (Vendor Relationship Management).  Fascinating concept.  Get to know each other, learn to trust each other, take care of each others problems, and THEN the customer will buy something more from you. To use banking parlance, its not about sales, its about … Continue reading Its not about transactions, its about relationships!

1997 – Help customers buy (Alertbox)

I came across this in Jakob Nielsen’s Alertbox for September 1997, more than two years before the dot com crash.  I particularly liked the “help customers buy” comment, and the prescient comment about online classifieds, which have done very well. Even though it does little good to run ads on other sites, there are many ways in which the Web can be used fruitfully in marketing. Most important are corporate websites where an entire site can be devoted to promote a company’s products. Such sites should not be sales-driven but should focus on customer support and service, including detailed product … Continue reading 1997 – Help customers buy (Alertbox)

Blogging isn’t a publishing strategy | Strange Attractor

Kevin highlights the mistakes that many companys will make.  A blog has to be part of a larger strategy.  It has to be incorporated into the overall business strategy, and support that strategy. ….   I see the same mistake being replicated with blogging. Newspaper publishers and broadcasters often fall into the trap of trying to understand new media behaviour through old media paradigms. Podcasting becomes another distribution channel, and blogging becomes another publishing platform. Adding comments to the bottom of stories or columns is a step, but it’s missing the point. It’s treating blogging strictly as a publishing tool, not … Continue reading Blogging isn’t a publishing strategy | Strange Attractor

BBC NEWS | Sir Tim Berners-Lee – huh?

With this quote Sir Tim displays either an incredible gullibility, or I am really missing something. PG: Why do we need a specific science to study the web TBL: If we don’t have the ability to understand the web as its now emerging we will end up with things that are very bad. Certain undemocratic things could emerge and misinformation starts spreading over the web. Source: BBC NEWS | Technology | Q&A: Web science The concept that internet is a social changing medium is not exactly rocket science.  And the fact that any page can be read, and likely will … Continue reading BBC NEWS | Sir Tim Berners-Lee – huh?
