Dare Obasanjo aka Carnage4Life – Tag Clouds 101

Dare makes a not inconsequential point.  Tags are a core tool in the web 2.0 toolbox, yet they remain highly undeveloped, with non-existent standardisation for usage, and display.  Tag clouds are already a pet peeve of mine because they are a poor navigational interface but it seems some people [who shall remain nameless] have found a way to make them even more annoying Source: Dare Obasanjo aka Carnage4Life – Tag Clouds 101   Technorati tags: tags, tagging Continue reading Dare Obasanjo aka Carnage4Life – Tag Clouds 101

Cymfony’s Influence 2.0 | "Conversational Marketing"

Jim makes the point here that Google Ad words are web 1.0 instruments, and akin to placing radio ads on TV.  They could be somewhat effective, but not optimal in a web 2.0 world.  I buy that logic. Web 2.0 is about empowerment, collaboration, conversation, sharing.  Interruptive advertising doesn’t fit that model. Conversational Marketing. The insight driving the idea is deceptively simple: if consumers go to blogs to be part of a conversation, the ads should invite them to enter a conversation with the marketer. Islamic Financial Services – Current Developments « Risk Management in Australia

This is the last in a well written and researched series on Islamic Banking from Ozrisk.   There are some interesting lessons to be learned here. The Islamic financial services sector should continue its recent compound annual growth for some time to come. It is a valuable addition to the more conventional, Western, style of financial services. Because of the nature of the products issued, it should also have some appeal beyond the Muslim community and some of its products could well be adopted by the financial community at large. G/localization: When Global Information and Local Interaction Collide

Danah’s speech to the O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference in March 2006, provides more basis for design of social network sites.  This is the conclusion, but the meaning is only understood by studying the paper.  DESIGNING FOR GLOCALIZATION – To close, I want to offer some suggestions that will help you address issues that emerge when dealing with glocalized communities. Empower users. Give them the ability to personalize and culturalize their spaces online. Let people create the contexts in which their expressions can occur so that they can help set and regulate the norms. This means everything from hackable HTML to … Continue reading G/localization: When Global Information and Local Interaction Collide

Blogging isn’t a publishing strategy | Strange Attractor

Kevin highlights the mistakes that many companys will make.  A blog has to be part of a larger strategy.  It has to be incorporated into the overall business strategy, and support that strategy. ….   I see the same mistake being replicated with blogging. Newspaper publishers and broadcasters often fall into the trap of trying to understand new media behaviour through old media paradigms. Podcasting becomes another distribution channel, and blogging becomes another publishing platform. Adding comments to the bottom of stories or columns is a step, but it’s missing the point. It’s treating blogging strictly as a publishing tool, not … Continue reading Blogging isn’t a publishing strategy | Strange Attractor

Rough Type: Nicholas Carr’s Blog: Welcome Web 3.0! – Semantic web

With this wrap up, the Web 2.0 annual conference is over, and not a moment too early by the sound of it.  there were few revelations, few moments where you had the exhilarating experience of seeing something that was about to change the world. Every conversation I had began with discussing the underwhelming nature of Web 2.0.” Source: Rough Type: Nicholas Carr’s Blog: Welcome Web 3.0! Javelin Strategy and Research » Online Trading: Banks or Brokerage?

I am looking forward to seeing the results of this survey.  Since 1996 and the beginning of online banking & brokerage, I have believed they ought not to be separate.    While bundling stock trading activities with personal finances may be generally viewed as more convenient than using online brokerage services, Javelin Strategy’s comprehensive, ongoing survey regarding online banking and stock trading revealed rather interesting responses to this issue. Source: Javelin Strategy and Research » Online Trading: Banks or Brokerage?
